The First Shot

The First Shot is the night the strangers came back. Nearly two decades after the Wayfarer’s return, it follows a commander watching the orbital defense ring, a grandmother and her granddaughter beneath the city shields, and a battery crew who can see the battle only as tracks on a screen, through one long night in orbit and on the ground.
